Notes on data sources
Statistics on total students are based primarily on intake cohort data reported by UK medical schools to the Office for Students (OfS), compiled and published as part of its latest UK medical and dental student (MDS) intake survey report. We also take into account General Medical Council (GMC) reports on numbers of students per medical school, where this data is available.
MedSchoolGenie calculates total students by summing available intake cohort data over the years of each UK medical school course. Average cohort numbers are derived by dividing total students by total number of course years (or, in cases of incomplete data, number of those course years for which data is available).
